Blockchain- Based Services Will be Launched in Dubai This Year
This year Dubai is planning to implement 20 blockchain-based initiatives and already is running pilot programs in some national departments.
Dubai has made a good nickname for itself as the ‘City of the Future’. Recently the government created an agency called Smart Dubai, with the purpose to make the city the most smartest and technologically advanced in the world. Also they are planning to implement blockchain-based services into the sectors.
IBM and Consensys are partnering to help realize the programs of Smart Dubai.
Blockchain For Other Programs
The National reported, that the general director of Smart Dubai Aisha Bint Buti bin Bisher said the “blockchain will improve people’s experience.”
The initial deadline for the launch is set for 2020, but Bisher believes it can be completed this year. At this moment, blockchain technology is already used for land registry transactions.
Also some other departments in Dubai, such as Department of Naturalization and Residency are also running pilot programs. Additional departments, including Dubai Customs, are collaborating with IBM on future initiatives.
According to agency’s view the blockchain technology could help to improve service delivery in government, which can save 25 million hours of productive time a year.
The Arabian Gulf countries, including United Arab Emirates want to invest in technology to reinforce oil revenue, which has seen losses due to oil price declines.
