A CRITICAL VULNERABILITY IS FOUND IN ZCASH NETWORK
Zcash cryptocurrency developers have reported a vulnerability that could allow hackers to create an infinite number of fake tokens. The error was discovered by the cryptographer Ariel Gabizon, in March 2018. The project managers decided not to disclose the details and solved the problem by updating Zcash Sapling protocol, which was activated in late October.
The vulnerability was in the system zk-SNARKS, it was used to hide balances and user data. The Zcash stressed that the problem did not affect privacy, it was related exclusively to the possibility of creating non-existent coins.
“The problem was completely solved, no action by Zcash users is required,” said the startup representatives.
After detecting the problem, the blockchain project took certain measures to minimize the possibility of its use, as well as warned other companies that used the ZK-SNARKS Protocol, including Horizon and Komodo. The head of the Zcash Zuko Wilcox said that the team did not want to disclose information about the vulnerability until then, until you have protected all the largest by market capitalization crypto-currencies.
