DISH Uses BITPAY As A Payment System For Transactions
DISH, the first provider of a paid TV platform that started receiving Bitcoin in early 2014, today announced today announced the addition of Bitcoin Cash as a payment option and is currently using BitPay, which is the largest Bitcoin payment system for cash transactions with customers.
Since 1980 DISH Network Corporation has played a significant role in the evolution of pay-TV. The company provides services to millions of customers around the world in all branches.
“We have a constant volume of customers who pay crypto currency every month, and BitPay will allow us to continue to offer more choice and convenience to our customers,” said John Swieringa, executive vice president and chief operating officer of DISH.
DISH customers can use Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash to pay monthly subscriptions, as well as movies and pay-per-view events. As a transaction, the DISH client sends the exact amount of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash needed to make one-time payments to mydish.com or to DISH’s Hopper DVR. BitPay exchanges payments in US dollars at the time of the transaction without the risk of cryptocurrency volatility.
“Our goal is a smooth transition to BitPay, so all customers who currently pay for bitcoin services still have the opportunity to pay for Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash,” said Sonny Singh, BitPay’s Chief Commercial Officer.
