OPERA LAUNCHES ANDROID BROWSER WITH A BUILT-IN ETH-WALLET AND SUPPORT FOR DAPPS

Opera has announced the release of the Android browser “Web 3-ready” with a built-in cryptocurrency wallet and support for decentralized applications.

The new browser version, previously available only in beta, supports ETH and other ERC-20 tokens, as well as decentralized applications on the Ethereum network like CryptoKitties, which are accessible via the crypto-wallet interface. Charles Hamel, the head of the Opera Crypto, noted:

“Prior to that, the use of cryptocurrencies online and access to Web 3 required special applications and extensions, which led to the fact that it was difficult for people to try to use them. Our new browser copes with this obstacle”.

Hamel also noted that the new product almost repeats the functionality of the beta version, but the developers have significantly changed the user interface, after receiving feedback from users.

The Android browser is now available in the Google Play store, but the company is already planning to launch browser updates for Windows, Mac and Linux next year. At the same time, versions for developers are already available. The application for iOS is much more complicated and is not a priority yet, Hamel said.

Recall that in October, the blockchain company Ledger Capital announced about the partnership agreement with the software manufacturer Opera Software. Then main goal of that partnership was to find out potential of blockchain technologies on the products of the Norwegian company, including the Opera browser.
