Reddit, Ethereum & Litecoin Support Will Allow To Re-Enable Bitcoin Payments
This is the largest society, where cryptocurrency enthusiasts meet and discuss technology. In fact Bitcoin subreddit has 816k subscribers, and the Cryptocurrency subreddit has over 663k subscribers. Yet, even in March, the Platform disconnected Bitcoin as a method of payment for Reddit Gold after its inclusion in February 2013.
Actually Reddit had disconnected Bitcoin as a payment method without any notice, making customers to pay using PayPal and Credit Card. However after opening his first page Bitcoin Subreddit, the Reddit site admin reacted to the deletion. He devlared that they had problems with the payment platform of Coinbase which led them to a complete disconnection of the platform.
The admin later said, “Yup that’s right. The upcoming Coinbase change, combined with some bugs around the Bitcoin payment option that were affecting purchases for certain users, led us to remove Bitcoin as a payment option.”
Amendments to Coinbase Commerce made by Coinbase allowed traders to accept Bitcoin-payments, and the change required significant updates from traders. Reddit decided not to do the update, disconnecting Bitcoin as a method of payment.
In an interview with Cheddar CTO of Reddit Christopher Slough showed that they are working on returning Bitcoin-payments on their platform. He convinced that they did not have time to work on updating Coinbase, because they were fixed on the new design of Reddit.
When asked if they intend to accept Cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, Slowe said:
“We have been looking at other Cryptocurrencies. We are looking at Ethereum and Litecoin that are provided by Coinbase as well”.
Bitcoin is going to return to the platform, and this time users will have more options, such as Ethereum and Litecoin, to buy Reddit Gold. Slowe did not give a timeline when Bitcoin returns to the platform, but it does.
